Gilbert Burns and Leon Edwards get the tension rising on social media as they go on a war of words over the welterweight division and its title contention.
Right now, Kamaru Usman sits on top of the mountain at the welterweight division and the title contenders are looking to pull each other down to get a title against “The Nigerian Nightmare”. This time it is Leon Edwards who is on a 9 fight win streak and the former welterweight contender from Brazil, Gilbert Burns who are taking jabs at each other over who deserves the title shot more. Burns has already called out Edwards after his win against Nate Diaz at UFC 263.

Gilbert surfaced this on the Twittersphere calling out Edwards. Leon seemed to be offended that Burns would even call him out while “Rocky” is sitting on an amazing winning streak. Leon responded by saying, “You should fight Luque. You already snake one of your friends from the gym what’s another one to you.”

Vicente Luque and Burns are the best of friends in the UFC. When Edwards called Gilbert for being a snake and suggesting he fought Luque next, “Durinho” got really vulgar with his tweets calling the British welterweight a “Brummie c*nt”. The Brazilian also thinks that Edwards’ fight streak is worthless in the conversation of title contention as he is not beaten any top fighter in his career. Gilbert on the other hand has defeated top-ranked fighters like Tyron Woodley, Damian Maia, and Stephen Thompson.

Dana has previously said that a fight against Jorge Masvidal is always an option. Leon called out Burns for not accepting a fight with him when his title shot against former teammate Kamaru Usman was called off. But Burns responded saying he got the title shot so he didn’t have to fight Edwards.
