RIVERVIEW, Fla. (WKRC) — A couple was ambushed after winning thousands of dollars at a casino.
A Florida couple is recovering after they were ambushed and shot outside their home. The incident happened earlier this month after they won a $3,000 jackpot at a casino in Tampa, Florida.
Kim Chambliss told Bay News 9 that it had been a while since she and her fiancé Val Delacruz had a date night. They planned an evening at Tampa's Hard Rock Seminole Casino.
"We felt safe and secure in the moment, just enjoying each others company," Chambliss told the station.Aside from spending quality time together, the couple said the highlight of their date was winning a $3,000 jackpot. They cashed out and headed home to Riverview, Florida, and had no idea they were being followed.
"You know yeah we could've been more vigilant, but we didn't even think about it in that moment," Chambliss told Bay News 9.
Door cam video captured the ambush at the couple's door. Two men in masks approached and demanded money, with one firing multiple shots at Val, who was struck in both legs.
"We were just caught off guard and its been a totally traumatic experience," Chambliss told the station.
She told the outlet they are taking things one day at a time.
"Trying to get through this and heal. Not only physically, but mentally and emotionally," Chambliss told the outlet
Marcus Jenkins and Tristin Wright were arrested and are facing several charges, including attempted murder.
