POST FALLS, Idaho (CBS2) — A man was injured and hospitalized after he was shot during an officer-involved shooting in northern Idaho.
The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called out to Elm Road and Riverbend in Post Falls on a mental health call Thursday night.
"A male caller stated that 'a deputy dies or I die, you better get here soon or there will be lots of deaths,'” the sheriff said.
Details about what happened next have yet to be disclosed, but police say deputies encountered a man and an officer-involved shooting occurred. The man was taken to Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene where he's in stable condition. No deputies were injured.
“Any mental health crisis is difficult for all involved. While our deputies are trained in de-escalation techniques, with persons in extreme mental distress, sometimes those techniques don’t have the impact we would hope,” said Sheriff Bob Norris.
Idaho State Police is investigating the shooting.
