Haas F1 joined the Formula One grid in 2016, as the first American team in years. The youngest team on the grid has been affected for all its eight years in the sport by budgeting issues, which impaired results. In 2021, the Kannapolis-based team didn’t even develop their car throughout the season to save for their 2022 vehicle.

Michael Andretti aims to end Haas’s monopoly as the sole American team in F1. Andretti Autosport plans to enter the grid in 2025 or 2026, teaming up with General Motors’ Cadillac. Andretti emphasized the American identity of his project, contrasting it with Haas, which, he suggests, has diluted its American roots by having ties to other countries.

They had no infrastructure, they can't build their own machine. We have to build our own car, and it's a huge undertaking. I think of a real American team: an American driver a car built here in the United States and an American engine.
Michael Andretti said, as reported by formulapassion.it

Andretti still has not received complete entry to the pinnacle of motorsport yet, though the approval from the FIA is complete. F1 needs to finalize the corporate aspects of the deal, and Andretti will join Audi as one of the two newest teams on the grid if they succeed.

Andretti is joining Formula One for the first time after the company’s namesake Mario Andretti won the championship many years prior. The American motorsport team is partnering with General Motors for their project. They plan to create an all-American team, with the driver rumored to be American Indycar driver Colton Herta.

Andretti had faced some pressure on the feasibility of joining the grid, and there were doubts about whether Andretti would make the grid. If Andretti failed to gain entry to F1, General Motors would also be left out. Christian Horner and others said that GM would be beneficial to the sport, though they still opposed Andretti. However, GM president Mark Reuss reasserted GM’s intentions to race with Andretti, saying they are committed to join them.

GM is committed to partnering with Andretti to race in F1. The collaboration between Andretti-Cadillac brings together two unique entities built for racing, both with long pedigrees of success in motorsport globally.
Mark Reuss said, as reported by apnews.com

In 2026, Audi will acquire Alfa Romeo, joining the grid. Andretti, a new team and the 11th on the grid got approval from the FIA, beating six other applicants. Successful in various motorsport categories, Andretti aims to continue its triumphs in Formula One.
