Evra was born on 15 May 1981 in Dakar, the capital city of Senegal. His father is of Guinean descent and his mother, Juliette is a Cape Verdean. He is one of 24 children though he has lost two of his siblings. He was raised as a Catholic and has said that his father carried anti-Muslim views. Evra’s father was a diplomat and the family moved to Belgium when he was one year old. When he turned three, the family moved to France and settled in Les Ulis, a commune south of Paris.

Right before the world cup of 2010, he revealed that he had suffered at the Senegal national team supporters for choosing to represent France internationally over his country of birth.

Patrice Evra started his career in football playing for hometown club CO Les Ulis. He participated in the streets for years and was brought to the club by friend Tshymen Buhanga. Evra spent about a year at the club following the coach Jean-Claude Giordanella. Evra formerly played football in the striker position and, while training at Les Ulis, went through the trials of professional clubs like Rennes and Lens. After the results of the trials, Evra was rejected originally due to his size. He became a part of the amateur club CSF Brétigny it was very similar to his work with Les Ulis. Evra has been on trials with several clubs, most notably Toulouse and Paris Saint-Germain. He was eventually signed by the latter and turned into a winger.

Manchester United

On 27 December, French sources reported that Manchester United was interested in contracting with Patrice Evra and on 3 January 2006, Evra admitted he preferred to relocate to England to join Manchester United. The very next day, Manchester United officially published a transfer bid for the player, and later on, on 6th January, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson sanctioned that a deal for Evra was reached. Four days later, it was announced that he had officially joined the team with a transfer fee of £5.5 million and a three-and-a-half-year signed contract. Evra’s appearance indicated that Ferguson intended to shore up the club’s defense that had sustained a blow ever since Gabriel Heinze was sidelined.

Patrice Evra had soon become the captain of the team and soared them to new heights.

In September 2019, Evra came back to Manchester United as a trainee coach while finishing his professional coaching badges. He will spend time among the club’s Academy coaching staff for a while.
