BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Happy Tuesday! We are waking up to sunshine and smoky skies across the region. Highs between 98-103 degrees are expected across the Treasure Valley on Tuesday, with wildfire smoke continuing to degrade air quality across the region.
We are currently in the moderate category for air quality, those with sensitive lungs want to limit their time outdoors and avoid strenuous activity.
Another high-pressure ridge will intensify again over the Intermountain West this week. This will eventually raise temperatures in the Treasure Valley. However, another tough of low pressure will develop along the west coast by midweek.
This will intensify the flow from the southwest. That is the perfect conveyor belt for desert air to move in from the desert. Temperatures will reach the century mark once again on Tuesday. By Wednesday, highs will reach 104 degrees. By Thursday and Friday, the numbers will climb to 105 degrees.
By next weekend, our highs will again climb to record levels as we reach 108 degrees. We expect increasing clouds on Wednesday as a chance of isolated thunderstorms moving into the region in the afternoon. However, storms will mainly affect Eastern Oregon today and the Idaho/Nevada border tomorrow.
Air quality will continue to decrease as fires from Washington to Central California pump smoke into Idaho. This pattern usually continues through August. The more fires we have, the worse the smoke and visibility in the valley can become.
